    05/01/1863 ... I issued rations of fresh meat. ...The round shot frequently whistled over my head and a number struck near places I had left a short time since.
    05/02/1863 ... went to the front again. I did not expose myself to shot as I had no business there. ... I felt very tired, but was ordered to the front after dark to draw rations. Stanley kindly relieved me and I am in the A tent again.
    05/05/1863 ... I am tired out, going to the front nights is hard work.
    05/07/1863 ... Hooker ordred 2 ratiosn of whiskey which I got tonight in canteens.
