Dear Wife
I have just received your letter of the 11th am sorry to hear that Freddy is sick but hope the next I hear from you will bring the inteligence that he has got well or better so that he is out of danger but be that as it may I hope that I shall be prepared to bare up under the affliction if it should be otherwise: I wish that I could come and see my little Freddy and all of the rest of you but that can not be at presant if ever I shall be over anxious to get your next letter so as to hear how my little boy is but when I shall receive it I can not tell for I expect to leave here to morrow whare our destination is none of us know some conjecture that we are agoing on board of a transport to North Carolina but that is only guess work the 1st Lieutenant has just been in to our tent he thinks we are going to Dumfries but that we do not know after we move if I can get time and have any place I will write to you and let you know our whareabouts I was in hopes that I should have been paid off before we leave here so that I could send the money home to you; But Lucinda I wish I knew how my little Freddy is to night whilst I am pening these few lines to you whether he is well or better I hope the Lord has seen fit to spare the little fellow for a solace and a comfort to his parent although one of them is in a southern clime there to battle for his countrys flag and although he may never be permitted again to see any of his family it would be a consolation to know that he had left someone behind to grow up and take care of his affectionate companion when she becoms old and infirm now my good little boys if yiou should never see me again you must always be good to your Mother and do all you can to help her if Freddy gets a long well you must be careful and not let him take cold and get down again From Yur affectionate Husband A.C.
