Dear Wife

I have just received your letter of Aug 7th was glad to get it and to hear that you were all well: and I will take this opportunity to answer it whilst I have time to let you know how I are getting along  I am well my health has as a general thing been very good this summer: I hope when this reaches you it will find you and the children well, you asked if we have had any thunder showers down here this summer I guess you would think so if you was here and had to be out in some of them as I do two or three weeks ago last sunday our Brigade went out to support a Division of the fourteenth Corps and we had a shower while we was gone it lasted two or three hours it was an old settler I tell you: it more than rained we was like so many drowned rats for we was soaked through and through as you might say, we have had considrable raine here of late: and some very warm weather: I am still in the same place that I was when I wrote to you last I have forgot the date but it was only a few days ago at any rate less than a week so you may know if you get that and this also: you want to know in every letter when this war will close if I knew I would tell you willinly, but no one but God knows when that will be and for one I am willing to waite his time although I should be glad to hear that it was closed to day and that I might return to Moodus there to enjoy the society of my dear Wife and children and all my friends.  I have lived in the south long enough to satisfy me:but if it is necessary for me to stay another year I shall do it willingly if my life is spaired then if it is the Lords will I shall be happy to meet you and my children once more at home around the social board there to enjoy the comforts usualy found in the family circle but if it is God will that my life should not be spaired then I hope we shall all be able to say Gods will be done: and you will all look to him for aid and comfort.  I think you will have to be rather spairing of sugar & molasses.  you will have to do without pies & cake I fear if sweatning keeps up as it is now, I am of your opinion that crust sugar is the cheapest if they give three lbs for a dollar & only 3 1/2 of brown but I would advise to be as spairing of that as you can if I live to come home I shall know how to live cheap I think. when I shall get my pay is more then I can tell you  I dont want it on my own acount but I dont know but you will nead some of it to live on in a few days now I shall have 8 months pay due me: write if you have received your thirty dollars for August from the state and also how much money you have got by you and how your accounts stand at the stores for I want you should keep me posted in regard to such matters: I dont see why Georgia does not write to me I have not had but one letter from her since she left home I dont know but she feels above writing to her dad perhaps she has forgot how she used to hug & kiss me sometimes when I was at home if she has I have not and I wish I might see them times again but I must close my love to you Lucinda from your Husband A.C. Amith
