Wauhatchie Valley Tenn May 1st 1864
Dear Wife
I now seat myself flat on the ground to write you a few lines to let you know how and whare I am, it is the sabbath and a pleasant day it is we have had some warm weather last week was on the march all the week am now within a few miles of Chattanooga, I received a letter from you last Monday morning before I left Cowan was glad to hear that you ware all well, it found me well and have been through the week past and am to day and I hope when this reaches you it will find you all the same. I was sorry to hear what I did of Edgar but you must do the best you can with him if he wont mind you and Uncle Washington will take him in charge I wish he would and make him minde we start again in the morning at five O clock but whare we shall fetch up I cant tell I must close for there is a dress parade in a few moments you nead not be surprised if you do not hear from me as often as usual for the preasant you can write to me for I can receive them and read your letters if I do not get a chance to answer them however I will endevor to let you hear from me as often as possible my love to you and all the children From your affecttionate Husband & Father A.C. Smith
