Dear Wife
I was happily disapointed this morning in receiveing your letter of the 21st of Feb I did not expect it till tomorrow but was glad it got along to day, would not care if I had one every day from you, It is quite warm here to day and rains a little, I am well and hope these few lines will find you all the same, I see by your letter that you have attended another donation and had a good time, That I am glad to hear, that you can enjoy yourself if I am not at home pehaps you do that better then you would if I was at home If you do I am glad of it, I think that you was fortunate in getting that loaf of cake I should like to be at home and help you eat it, I think they did very well at the party raised the minister a hansom sum, I told you in a letter awhile ago that I expected to be paid two months pay the next day but have not got it yet, but may before I send this letter I hope so for I want to send you som money, I dont want you to get into debt if you can help it I should think that it was time for your bounty money to get along I know you say that you have got the greenback by you yet but I want you to pay as you go along if you can so if I get my pay and send you a part of it and you get yours from the State you can settle up without breaking into that bill which you have by you. I must tell you here what the rumor is now that is that the 20th Regt with a number of other Connecticut Regts are going on an expedition under Gen,l Burnside whether there is any truth in the report or not we have got to waite for time to determin report says that we are to go to Long Island and start from there on the expedition, How does your wood hold out have you got enough to last you through the spring if not you had better get some before the ground gets soft for it cuts up the yard so in the spring. How are those appletrees that I set out are they all alive and did they grow any last year the grass should be kept away from round them and it would do no harm to put a little manure round them. Wal Ella G I received a good long and nice letter from you with mothers this morning was happy to get it I hope you will give me just such a one every week. I suppose you had a good time at the donation I expect you eat one of those suppers for me did you not, you say that you went to supper the first time with [Newel] Stephens, now who and what is he, I dont know any one by that name unles it is Jonathan Stephens,s son and if it was him all I have got to say is that you are getting into pretty high company have you got another of your pictures to share if you have I should like to have you send it to me I have a friend that wants one so if you can send another I wish you would.
