Dear & beloved Wife
I received a letter from you last eve dated Jan 26th was glad to get it and to hear that you wear all well it found me well and still remain the same to day and I hope when this reaches you it will find you and the children all the same, It is raining here to day which makes it rather unpleasen out doors, but as fortune will have it I am not on duty to day so that I am not obliged to be out in the wet, Therefore I thought that I could not improve a few leisure moments in any better way than by answering your letter, I have just been setting a pach on my pants for they ware getting out at the knee and also at the stern, I have just been out and drawed my rations for five days, I wish that you could see what a lot of sugar and coffee I got for five day, the sugar would sweaten a fellow up so that I think it would be dangerous if I was round whare you or the children could get hold of me for you might take me for a lump of sugar and in that case I should be amongst the missing very soon, Somebody in Conn has strained themeselves awfully they must have either broke their back or stove their belly in I should think, for we received a present this morning and I will bet you cant guess what it was, I was fairly astonished to think that any body should open their hearts and be so liberal towards the soldiers, Wal I suppose by this time you are waiteing to hear what it was that we received, I will tell you in the first place will say that there is five of us together in one tent and we got for our share of the present about one lb of codfish and two papers of smoking tobacco so you will preceive that it was very valubal about five or six cents worth of codfish and twenty five cts worth of tobacco for five of us But they say you must be thankful for a little that you may receive more but I could not help laughing it was such a big thing; In the letter that I got before this you spoke about our boys being the only ones that was at sabbath school you tell them that their Father was glad to hear that they go to the sabbath schoool and hope they will continue to go and learn to be good boys and love to go to meeting, tell them to write to me often Edgar must be quite a boy by this time I should think he might write a long letter, If you want a new boiler you must get it, I suppose you are having good times at home going to donations and the like I hope you will enjoy yourself as well as you can only keep right side up with care It seams that Georgia did not get to the donation but went somewhare els you did not say whare or whether she went alone or not it look a little as though you ment to keep me in the dark in regard to some of her moves I guess have wrote enough for this time so good day From your Husband A.C.
