Dear Wife
I will now take this opportunity to answer your letter of the 29th of Nov I received it Wednesday morning was glad to hear that you ware all well it found me well and still remain the same and hope when this reaches you it will find you all in good health It is warm here and somewhat wet this morning we had a rainy day yesterday and last night, Rockwell has just come in and wants me to put my writing away and go down to town with him so I guess I will stop and finish after I come back, Wal Lucinda I have got back to my manshun in the south again so I will make another attempt to finish this letter I have been down to the great city of Stevenson did not see any thing worth mentioning it is very mudy about here after a rain and a fellow can hardly get along for the mud sticks to his feet so that he can hardly lift them. I have no news to write in particular as I know of you wanted to know what I had for Thanksgiving supper I had a trip as I have alredy told you on the cars for my Thanksgiving supper it was rather of a cold supper I called it at any rate it took them long enough to get it redy, Georgia says she never see such a pen as hers was to write with, I say the same by this of mine it is good for nothing it will not make a marke half of the time, If you was here I would give you some griddle cakes for supper we have them occasionly now days, they gave us one days ration of flour so we grate up hard bread wet it up with water stir in a little flour and bake it, It makes very good cakes we think now we are here but if we as at home I dont suppose we should think that we could eat such things, We had some the other night made of nothing but flour and water and a little salt nothing in them to make them lite, I asked Rockwell when we was eating them what he would say if he was at home and his wife should set such cakes on the table for him to eat as these was, wal he thought he should eat them and not say a worde, but I tell you what I should say I should tell you to put them in the swill pail or else take the choping knife and chop them up for the hens for they could not eat them unles you did chop them up, I must begin to think about drawing this lot of nonsence to a close for I have just received orders that we had got to com out on Inspection this afternoon at 3 Oclock and it,s almost that time now, I have got to look at the old gun a little and see if it is all right it wont answer to have any rust on it, the acoutraments have to be blacked and shined up the brasses have to be keft bright and last of all my old Hoggs have to be blacked up so they will shine like a niggars heel so good day, my love to you all
