Dear Wife

I now seat myself to answer your letter of the 23th and let you know how and whare I am I was glad to get yours and to hear that you ware all well it foun me well I have just received it. It has been a long time since I heard from you and it is the first time that I have attemped to write to you since the 19th of Sept for the reason that I have not had time to write I am a good many Miles farther away from home than I was the last time that I wrote to you. I have had but very little rest for the last two weeks night or day. I went on board of the cars two weeks ago to night in Va about ten or Eleven Oclock at night and road on them night and day for one week when I found myself down In Alabama by the side of the Tenn River one week ago this afternoon I went in a swimming in the Tenn River in the State of Alabama ten Miles from Stevenson Since that time I have been Marching or rideing on the cars moste of the time have not got settled in any place yet and dont know as I shall very soon. I got about two hours sleep last night and about the same night before and wont evearage much more than that since I left Old Va. I will Name some of the principle Towns that I passed through on my journey here. I got on board the cars at Bealtin Station Near the Rhappahannock went from there to Washington from there to Harpers Ferry and from there to Martinsburg Va then we pass on through numerous Towns and Villages till we got to within two miles of Wheeling. there we crossed the Ohio River into Bellair then we passed through the center of the State of Ohio
Through Columbus Xenia and Dayton then into Indiana Richmond was the first town that we went through from there we went to Indianapolis from thence we went to Louisville Ky from there through Kentuckey to Nashville Tenn through this State to Alabama here we Arived Saturday afternoon staied at this place untill Monday Morning about two Oclock when we took the cars and come to this very place whare I now am writing to you here we stoped about fifteen Minutes, took the same train and went back about four miles to Cowan Station, here we stayed but one night but while we was here I with nine others of our company went out with some waggons after Forrage. On my rout I shot a hog dressed it and took it to camp also one Gray Squirel put a ball rite through his head, when I got back I found the Regiment all packed up ready to go on board of the cars so we got aboard and went that night to Normandy the next Morning we started at day light and marched about 25 Miles that day so you see that we are kept pretty busy, I could write a long letter if I should go into the particulars but I have not time.

PS Enclosed you will find ten Dollars.

From Your Affectionate Husband
