Dear Wife

I will now take my pen and attempt to answer your letters. I received two on Monday night last dated the 12th & 19th last night I received two more dated the 23th & 26th was glad to get them and hear that you ware all well they found me well and am the same to day and hope when this reaches you it will find you all enjoying the same great blessing my health has been good since we left Stafford which was on the 13th of June although I have probably lost a good many pounds of fleash since the 13th of June we have been on the move moast of the time we have had long hot and tedgeous marches we started one week ago this morning Thursday at 6 Oclock Marched all day till 11 Oclock at night we laied ourselves down on the grass till three Oclock in the morning when we was rousted out and started on again this day we marched till twelve Oclock at night we then turned into a last years corn field and laied our weary limbs amongst the ridges and [ ? ] and lay there till morning boath of these nights we had to March through brooks rivers and mudy roads throug woods and bushes so darke you could hardly see sometimes a fellow would slop in to the mud half way to his knees but I have wrote anough of this, nothing however what I could tell you if I could see you and that I should be very happy to do but when or whether that will ever be I cannot now tell but live in hopes that the time is not far distant when I with all of the rest will be granted that wish that is of returning once more to our familys and friends. I do not get time to write when we are on the march if I did could not send the letters neither can we get letters when we are on the move untill we come to a place and stop for a day or two we have been here at this place since Sunday how long we shall stay here I cant tell. I thought I would answer these letters for I should hate to have you appear to me in the shape you spoke of especily at some particular times that I could mention. I should like some of your peas and beans that you spoke of but do not expect to have them this summer also some of the green apple pie that Georgia spoke of haveing or even any other kind of pie I would not be very particular what, tell Frank that we have a big kind of fire crackers out here I dont like to have them throwed at me very well they are not very pretty play things. the rebs and the army of the Potomac played with them a little on the 3th of July I guess if Frank has been whare I was he would not been very fond of them, that kind of Company you spoke about my haveing so pleanty out here I do not see their is but a very few houses this way unles it is in some vilage and those we do not stop in at all so you see I am not troubled much with that kind of company I have wrote anough to let you know that I am alive and well so I will close my love to you all

from your Husband and Father
