June 4th 1863
Dear Wife & Daughter
I will now take this opportunity to answer your letter which I have just received was glad to hear that you ware all well it found me well and hope when this reaches you it will find you all enjoying the same great blessing this morning I thought I should not have the pleasure of reading your letter to night although I expected one from you to night, for early this morning about day light say the orders come to pack knapsacks and have evry thing on ready to march at reville, so supposed long before this that I should have left this place but sundown finds us at Stafford still but expect to leave in the morning although do not know for certain. may have to march before morning it is uncertain business, when we go to bed at night we know not but we may be call up before morning to march against the foes of our country it is growing dark and I want to go away a little while over whare the Ambulances are so will let the rest be til I come back I sent you a letter last sunday with twenty dollars in it you ought to have got it by this time if it come through safe, I will send you ten dollars more in this letter for I do not wish to keep much money by me if I should go into battle and any thing should happen the rebs rob those that are wounded and fall into their hands so it stands a fellow in hand not to have much money about him, about the Seines if Frank Brainard or any one else will pay you twenty five dollars for my share you may sell them that is I mean cash down. that is what I will take for my interest in boath of them Now about those things that you wanted to get for yourself you can act your own pleasure about getting them but you must bare in mind that it is war times and not be to extravagant nor to flush with your money, Well Georgia I am glad to hear you say that you will try and do as I want you should see that you keep trying for you cant think how bad it makes me feel to hear that you are a naughty girl and wont minde your Mother now remember what I write to you they have beat on the old drum for the lites to be put out so I must close my love to you all
