Dear Wife

I now seat myself to adress a few lines to you to let you know how I am to day.I am well as usual and hope when this reaches you it will find you all the same. It is fine weather here now warm and pleasant and seams like spring we had a very heavy rain here last wednesday it made the roads very mudy but they have got dried up pretty well now I have been down to Aquia Creek Landing to day with an Ambulance to carry a sick man to take the boat for Washington to go into the hospital he was pretty badly off  he probably will never see his home in Connecticut again he has got the quick consumption  he could not speak louder than a whisper. I wrote to you in my last letter that we had got marching orders but we have not left Stafford yet and can not tell when we shall  our orders are to keep eight days rations on hand and be redy to march at a moments notice the traveling has got to be first rate and I hope the army will doe something before long,  I sent you a letter by William Rodman last week which you ought to have received saturday  it contained forty dollars in United States bills two twentys  if you get it let me know soon as I feel a little uneasy after I send you money untill I hear that it is all safe I will send you in this letter another ten dollar check  you can get Deacon Cone to send it away for you if he will and get the money on it, I will also send you a five dollar bill in this letter which will make in all that I have sent this time  I mean by Rodman and in this letter fifty five dollars. the first of May you will get your thirty dollars from the state you nead not let every one know how much money you have or how much I send home to you if you have more than you want to use rite away you can put it in the bank rather than to keep it by you for if some knew that you had a little money by you they might try to get it out of the house and if they did you would be none of the wiser for it, no more this timemy love to you and all of the children and a kiss besides

From your Husband
