Dear Wife
I now seat myself to write a few lines to you and let you know how I am getting along I received your letter cake Apples and other fixings that you sent by Horatio last night was very glad of them the cake was first rate it was not jamed at all I had to or at least I did give half or more of it away but it made me think of Molly Smith I have eat cake of the same stamp before about as good as you find anywhare if you see Mother and Louesa tell them I thank them for their butter which they sent. I should think Whellr or his Wife at least had a peculiar way of doing things on a sly, perhaps he thinks that kind of business pays better than going to war if he does I am satisfied that he should think so I had rather go to war, I can not write a very long letter this time every thing is hurly burly here now we are getting redy to march they say we have had orders to March to morrow so we have got to make preperations for it but we may not go as soon as that but I cant say but we shall if we do I have no idea whare we are going but will write to you as soon as I can get a chance after we move. I have been payed off to day for four months up to the first of March got fifty two dollars will send you forty dollars in this letter as soon as you receive it if you receive it at all I want you should answer this rite away as soon as you get it, I should think Carrigan was gitting into rather tall business if he wants to enter into anything of that kind he had better come out and try the rebs on a little, tell Jo Clark I heard how he voted this spring think he done the best thing he could doe under the presant circumstances I say down with the traitors whether north or south those at the north are doing more to prolong this war than those in the south. I wrote your folks a letter a few days ago. I gues have wrote all that I can get time to now so good after noon my love and a kiss to all of you
From your Husband
A.C. Smith
