Dear Wife
I now take my pen in hand and it is a pleasure to be permited to answer your letter at this time I received it last night also received one from my Mother and a paper at the same time was glad to hear that you ware all well it found me well and feeling first rate and remain the same to day and hope when this epistle reaches you it will find you all enjoying the same great blessing. You will see by the heading of this letter that I have got moved again up to Stafford Court house you must think by this time that I am quite a tavailer we stoped but two or three days at the last place whare we encamped before we come back here I presume we shall stay here untill the regiment moves but still we may not. it is uncertain business this was is I can tell you it is hard telling at the commencement of a week what will transpire before the close of it. it might be that peace would be declared at the experation of that time would to God that is might and we all be permitted to go to our homes and join our familys and friends once more. what a day of rejoiceing that would be. but for all I would like to see peace so much take the place of war in these United States I would not wish to have you think that I should like to see this war settled as some at the north would be glad to settle it that is to let the southerners have their own way that is not my stile at all, when the rebs are willing to lay down their arms and say enough, and become good and loyal citazens of the United States acknowledg themselvs hansomly whiped and agree never gain to rebell against the flag of our nation on those terms I should be glad to see peace declared but never on the terms proposed by the southern Confedercy I come out to help lick them into submision and I am willing to stay till it is done for I believe we are able to do it and I think we shall do it and that before long too, I think the day is not far distant when the rebbel army will be scattred to the four winds, you say Jo wants to know how to vote you tell him that I say never vote for Tom Seymour nor any one like him I believe him to be a traitor as much so as ever Jeff Davis was I would vote for Jeff jest as soon as I would for Seymour I am perfectly ashamed of the Democrat party of Connecticut if they have not got a better man than Seymour for Governor in the State of Connecticut I think they had better dry up if they had nominated some good war Democrat that was in favor of putting down the rebellion by a vigerous prosacution of the war there would have been no doubt but what they would have elected him but now I think Buckingham will be elected I hope so at any rate for all Seymour. So tell Jo to vote for Buckingham this spring if he can concienciously
